It appears Government’s plans to implement 24-hour service at two polyclinics will have to be put on hold for a while as the National Union of Public Workers says the current nursing staff have made it clear they won’t agree to the new shift system.

The 24-hour operation was supposed to commence at the Winston Scott and St. John polyclinics on Saturday June 1st but has had to be put on hold.

The status of negotiations on the matter was outlined to Starcom Network News by acting General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Delcia Burke, this morning ahead of a meeting with the nurses scheduled for his afternoon.

But addressing the Barbados Labour Party government’s 1st anniversary public rally at Carlisle Car Park last night, minister of health Lieuntenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic appealed for what he called good sense to prevail on the matter. He spoke of his efforts to address the concerns of the various health practitioners.

The minister stressed that he’s been working to address the concerns of nurses and other health professionals, including appointments.
