New PSV Code of Conduct

A new code of conduct for public service operators that goes into effect at month is being generally welcomed by players in the sector but they have a key concern which the Transport Authority indicates will be likely be addressed.

The seven-page code of conduct is part of efforts by the authority to tighten-up on discipline in the sector.

Chairman of the Transport Authority Ian Estwick says it just sets out in document rules that are already in place.

Both interim Chairman of the Association of Public Transport Operators Morris Lee and Public Relations Officer of the Alliance of Owners of Public Transport Mark Haynes told Starcom Network News they fully support efforts to maintain discipline in the sector.

But Mr. Lee had a concern about the requirement for all PSV’s to have comprehensive insurance.

That was a view shared by Mark Haynes.

When the PSV insurance matter was raised with the Transport Authority Chairman, he indicated it was a concern being listened to.

Mr. Estwick also promised a crackdown

on pirate vans.
