Twelve garbage trucks by end of September

Environment Minister Trevor Prescod expects the Sanitation Service Authority to have an additional 12 garbage trucks by the end of next month to help alleviate the pile-up of refuse across the island.

He gave this assurance to Starcom Network News today following recent complaints from the public, many via social media.

Mr. Prescod says the authority requires an average of 35 trucks daily to adequately cover the island and the new vehicles on order will be a much-needed addition to the seven vehicles recently imported through Simpson Motors.

The Minister also identified stalled negotiations with the National Union of Public Workers over weekend work for SSA employees as another hurdle to overcome.
