The Barbados Private Sector Association promises to try to absorb some of the laid of government workers.

With phase three of government’s restructuring program, including another round of layoffs due to commence in January, the Barbados Private Sector Association is promising to try to absorb some of the hundreds laid off from the public sector.

This commitment was given by Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Edward Clarke, briefing Starcom Network News on the outcome of yesterday’s social partnership meeting where the various stakeholders were brought up to date on the Barbados Economic Transformation or BERT program.

Close to a thousand jobs have already been cut under the program which aims to trim the public sector by 15 hundred posts.

Mr. Clarke expects economic activity to pick up and says that should allow at least some of those displaced to find new jobs.
