Sugar Cane Workers Want Crack Down on Thieves

The President of the Sugar Industries Staff Association (SISA), Edwin O’neal, is calling on authorities to crack down on instances of praedial larceny within the sugar industry.

He tells STARCOM NETWORK NEWS that the theft of sugar cane by some vendors is seriously impacting the sector’s profitability. The matter was discussed at the union’s recent annual general meeting.

Mr O’neal says, “the praedial larceny of food crops as well as the sugar cane vendors at the round-a-bouts, why the Police can’t seem to do anything about it — as well as the Health authority. They talk about the coconut water, they do things about the coconut vendors but nobody does anything about the sugar that members of the public are going to consume.”
