Local Tourism officials meeting to discuss Thomas Cook fallout

Local tourism officials are this afternoon meeting to discuss their next move following news about the collapse of major international tour operator, Thomas Cook.

Reports are that the company went bust after last-ditch talks to raise fresh funding failed and a bailout from the British government of £250M was denied.

Chairman of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Stephen Austin told Starcom Network news that the collapse of Thomas Cook is a big blow to Barbados’ tourism.

Mr. Austin says there are some visitors still on the island who would have booked through Thomas Cook but local tourism officials are attempting to assist.
