The first set of new electric buses for the Transport Board should be on the road here by August after a Canadian company was awarded the contract.

The entity yet to be officially named was to be officially informed today that they had won the contract that they are expected to execute in collaboration with a number of local firms.

Chairman of the Transport Board, Gregory Nicholls, disclosed in an interview with Starcom Network News that the tender submitted by the Canadian firm was officially approved last week.

Meantime, Mr. Nicholls indicates that after they have completed negotiations with the Barbados Workers Union, a new look Transport Board will emerge that will be leaner, more efficient and will take on more of the role of a regulator than an operator in the bus system that will be more of a public/private sector partnership with Transport Board Workers being part owners.
