Dr Worrel’s Day in Court

The matter involving the Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler, and the Central Bank Governor, Dr. DeLisle Worrell is to be heard in the High Court today.

The hearing follows Dr. Worrell’s reported decision to go to court on Sunday night to get a temporary injunction restraining the Minister of Finance from firing him.

Speaking in the House of Assembly last evening during the debate on an amendment to the Barbados Revenue Authority Act, Opposition Leader, Mia Mottley hinted that the situation was unusual.

“Because I am aware of the precarious nature of where this economy finds itself today, because I am aware of the unfortunate blow … I don’t know of any governor of a central bank in any other part of the world that has ever been given an injunction by a minister of finance.” she said. “It is new territory.”
