BWA STAFF GETTING THEIR BACK PAY – THREATENED LOCK-OUT FAILS TO MATERIALISE

The Barbados Water Authority staff continue to operate from their new Pine, St. Michael headquarters despite an alleged threat by the property developers Innotech to lock them out of the property for non-payment of the lease payment for the building.

BWA staffers tell Starcom Network News that last week some of them were briefed by management about the threat of a lockout that triggered a relocation of equipment.

BWA sources indicate the lease payment could be as much as a million dollars a month and say they were told a decision was taken to defer the lease payment and instead use the money to help pay severance to staff and back pay from increments and a 5% public sector pay increase.

Indeed Starcom News has obtained a copy of an internal staff notice dated today that informs staff that the back pay disbursement will commence tomorrow, the first of three equal cash instalments, with the second payment on December 31st and the third on January 31st.

Meantime, Chairperson of the BWA Board of Directors Leodene Worrell declined comment on the building lease matter except to say negotiations are continuing.
