Investigation launched into complaints of imported frozen pork

The Ministries of Agriculture and Commerce have launched an investigation into complaints of imported frozen pork by a local source to compete with local fresh pork producers.

Minister, Indar Weir says the matter was brought to his attention by the Barbados Agricultural Society on behalf of the farmers who say the competition is affecting their sales.

A few weeks ago, pork farmers stated that they could supply the local demand for pork year-round…. And Minister Weir tells Starcom Network News that while he fully supports the industry, he needs the facts.

Minister Weir explained that there are some agencies that are licensed to import pork.
