KEN HUSBANDS

Hi, I am Ken Husbands (the one and only, any other is counterfeit.)

I am happy to meet you via the World Wide Web and I am sure you are happy to meet me also.

Let me tell you a little about myself:-

First why I like and enjoy radio. As a young boy, with pride and joy, I was the soloist for every school that I attended, and therefore radio is an extension of my small boyhood stage. On radio I have an opportunity to relate to thousands of people and to sing them my song through the voices of other artists.

I have a very strong penchant for classics, this includes Greek mythology, Latin, and of course English literature, especially poetry. There are many VOB listeners who enjoy this art.

Among my hobbies are, dominoes, hearts, scrabble, and table tennis. Further, I am at home when in my kitchen garden, where I grow watermelons, beans etc. Many of you may have heard that I breed champion dogs that are in the working group. (Bullmastiffs and Great Danes)

I enjoy being a Christian man, being married and having children. At the end of my life, I wish to rest content that I have lived my life in service to those who employ me and to those who listen to my programmes, (as you know radio is a source of information, education and entertainment for many people) but most importantly I wish to know that I have lived a life that is pleasing to God.

DENNIS JOHNSON

Broadcaster Dennis Johnson was born in one Caribbean Island; educated in two, and lived and worked in three!
Brought to Barbados at the age of five, this Caribbean man knew in which island he would choose to spend the the rest of his life.
So after his final year of school in Trinidad, and a patient five years at the Royal Bank of T&T Ltd., Dennis migrated with his wife and two year old daughter, to Barbados. Five more years in Banking was followed by eight years in the hotel sector.
But, as with his love for Barbados, his love for broadcasting kept beckoning. So in 1994, he made the decision to follow his heart, and joined Barbados Rediffusion Service Ltd., as the afternoon drive time host on YESS 10-4 FM.
Smooth talking mellow music man, sharp talking tough talk show host. Just two sides of a multi-talented, multi-dimensional, Caribbean national who refuses to be walled in by territorial borders.
A free spirit charting his way across the airwaves.

SCHARON MILLINGTON

IGWho is Scharon Millington? I am in my thirties and have been married for a couple of years. I'm a relatively quiet individual, unless provoked :) I love animals and during my spare time I watch documentaries.
Where am I going in the next five years? The man next door told me "the sky is the limit." No seriously I'm just taking it one day at a time.

Why Afternoon Delight? I always wanted to help people, that's why my job option at school was to be a social worker. When the opportunity arose on VOB in 1998 for a "drive time personality" I said to myself "Yes I'm sure this is how I can help people," and I haven't looked back since.

Any Regrets? Sure, only one, that I wasn't doing this ten years ago. But then nothing happens before its time.

SHAYLA MURRELL

I'm Shayla, a graduate of the Mass Communication Programme at Barbados Community College and "de baby o' de VOB family", who hopes to enjoy an exciting career in advertising (or a related field) someday.

On September 15th 1980,I was born to two wonderful parents, De Vere and Andria. They are my inspirations. My younger brother and I tease each other unmercifully, much to the annoyance of my parents! I like to laugh and laugh hard, especially when I'm yapping on the 'phone. A hearty laught always makes me feel good. When I'm happy, I sing to the top of my lungs, sometimes long and strong, loud and wrong but hey, who's listening? I love all kinds of music, from Kaiso to church hymns but I think Soft Rock/alternative is so "me."

Many people are amused by my adoration for animals. Actually, this "bio" is dedicated to my one and only tabby, Kityna "Kotyne" Murrell, she too sweet (sometimes).

My idea of a good time: Exploring the countryside, sea bathing, great music and good ol' bajan food. The perfect gift? Diamonds are forever....

Radio announcers are ordinary people who go through ordinary every day situations like anybody else and my advice to anyone going through a tough time is; "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lead not to thine own understanding and in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path."

One thing that most people do not know about me....which I'm sure you've figured out already....I'm here....but I'm really gone.....

MAURICE G NORVILLE

In 1972, Maurice Norville entered broadcasting. His foundation years were with the then Barbados Rediffusion. Almost three decades since his first morning on air, and following tours of duty with CBC Radio and Television as well as BBS, he is enjoying mornings again "at home" down by the riverside. Father of three, Maurice combines his VOB morning-anchor role with a vibrant insurance sales career with Life Of Barbados and Barbados Fire and Commercial (BF&C) and Sagicor.

CHARMAINE BURNS-PLAZA

They say I'm crazy, something else, their mummy, they love me (yeah right)... but among these I am really the best secretary anybody could have (I think). I guess you could say I'm "The Jack Of All Trades". I work for the programming/news & public affairs departments and it's madness most of the time - it keeps me slim though. We have a great team here and I know you'll enjoy us all.

DAVID ELLIS

Worked with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation 1974-1979 as a Reporter; Radio Antilles - 1980-81 and Director of News and Current Affairs; StarCom Network 1981-present, at times combining the roles of Director of News and Public Affairs and Programme Director. He currently has responsibility for News and Public Affairs, which includes Sports and the general Call-In programmes "DOWN TO BRASS TACKS and TELL IT LIKE IT IS".
